Each year, we seek pre-law advisors who are active NAPLA members and would like to be considered for the position of At-Large Board Member. Serving in this role is a great opportunity to develop professionally, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to our profession. We have four (4) openings for two-year terms (September 2017-August 2019) for the upcoming election cycle.
Time Requirements: The NAPLA Board meets three times each year – in the Fall (usually in October/November), in the Spring (usually in February/March), and during our annual conference in June. The Fall and Spring board meetings are held on Saturday and Sunday, with Board members typically traveling on Fridays to the meeting. Travel, meals, and hotel expenses incurred for the Board meetings are covered by NAPLA.
Responsibilities: At-Large Board Members volunteer for at least one of the Board Committees – including the Finance Committee, Nominating Committee, and the Communications and Strategic Initiatives Committee – and contribute to its ongoing work. At-Large Board Members also serve on the Conference Planning Committee, taking an active role in the planning and implementation of the annual Conference each summer.
Nomination Process: Members nominate themselves for the At-Large Board Member position by submitting a complete nomination form (Here). The nomination deadline is Monday, April 3, 2017, and members of the Nominating Committee will review applications and select a slate of candidates. Applicants will be informed of the Nominating Committee’s decisions by Monday, May 8, 2017.
We encourage you to consider nominating yourself for a NAPLA Board position, and to support your colleagues by encouraging them to self-nominate. We look forward to receiving your self-nominations in the coming months. Thank you.
